McMaster Weather Station

McMaster Weather Station

BY JEFFREY BAKER, GUEST CONTRIBUTOR

Did you know that there is a weather station on campus, and that we can get accurate weather reports four times an hour? I didn't myself until recently. Since McMaster is impacted by the lake effect, I no longer need to wonder if it is going to rain today or not.

The site provides the current temperature, windchill, humidity, humidex, amount of precipitation and more. It also provides information on the weather from the previous day. You can also obtain graphs and data from the site to use for projects.

The purpose of the weather station is support undergraduate learning and graduate teaching on campus as well as the community surrounding McMaster. It was established in October 2007, and is currently located on the roof of GSB

The website information is maintained by the School of Geography and Earth Sciences.

I asked the shuttle driver the other day, and she said they were emergency sirens

they look like radar domes, except normally there's only one of those white capsule things, not six (on boats, anyway)

Edit: here's a picture of what I mean

Whoa... emergency sirens... it looks like those new emergency poles also have some sort of sound system built into them.

I believe those new towers are part of a P.A. system that security services is installing. It's meant to announce any emergencies or cancellations around campus, since we currently don't have any quick way of informing the masses.
