Medical School and Co-op
Hi,
I just recently got accepted into a co-op program at Mac, however I am also considering medical school and I am not sure if I should pursue co-op or not. I know I don't need to do co-op in order to apply to medical school, but I am concerned about whether doing co-op will hinder my eligibility for medical school.
For anyone who has done co-op and then applied to med school, what's your take on co-op? Or if anyone knows about co-op, any advice/concerns or things I should be aware of when making my decision to whether pursue co-op or not?
Any comments are appreciated!

i would think co-op would be very beneficial.... if you want to be realistic, relying soly on med school is a huge risk, if u dont get in then ur stuck.... i think that if you do co-op you get that added work experience ( which may look good on medschool ap, probably not but it wont look bad either).... and if you dont get into med school that co-op position will probably end up being a valuble way to get you foot in the door on your back up plan/alternate career

There is no disadvantage to coop, and many potential advantages. I would apply for coop when you get to McMaster.

Having Co-op experience on your resume looks REALLY good.

But what about the potential problems with applying to medical school? I have heard that Ottawa U doesn't consider co-op students as full-time students?

You aren't a student if you are on the co-op working term. Because the co-op work term is not a course, it does not have credits and therefore you are not a student at the university at this time. But if you are on the school term, there shouldn't be a problem...
