medical school!!
OK...so far I have heard a billion things about "how to get into a med school" and the processes after that..but still it isnt tht clear..

1. 4 years of honours of life sci ( in my case)
2. 3 years of med school ( if I chose mcmaster) so wat exact degree will i be getting once I finish that? M.D?
3.Residency/ internship for 2 years?...
4. anything else after that?

I would be thankful if the whole thing is explained to me properly n systematically!

Thanks in advance!!

1. Most schools require 3-4 years of undergrad.
2. M.D. yes, unless you go into something like a PhD/MD program.
3. Residency is sort of dependant on what you go into.
4. Of course there is more training, but it probably won't be formal training.

I would keep you sights on getting into med school first though, everything else comes later.

thanks..one more quick question!

How wud you calculate the GPA that's out of 4. LIke for all the med school articles, I see that they require a GPA of 3.7 or up.

SO how would I calculate that being a mcmaster student? What will 10.8/12 gpa be in terms of that?

thanks

There's no direct translation of a 10.8 GPA to the 4.0 scale due to how our marks are converted. Two people with 10.8 GPA's can have different averages on the 4.0 scale because individual marks are converted to the 4.0 scale for medschools and then averaged.

You'll need to convert your marks first and then find your GPA, this site gives you the conversion scale: http://www.ouac.on.ca/omsas/pdf/c_omsas_b.pdf

10.8 is a solid gpa mate.. Your gpa should be close to 3.85 on the 4.00 scale.. keep it up bud

It could also be in the 3.7's...again depends on your specific marks for each course. But you're on the right track, good luck .

After medical school you will have to continue learning. You have to have a certain number of hours in a certain amount of period (Probably every 1-2 years).

I would use this website for converting your GPA. It also shows you where you would be on another schools scale.

Because then people who have a 4.0GPA at Mac can't impress their friends at other schools.

If you use the link I sent you, take your marks from column 7 (A+ = 12, B+ = 9 etc.) and change them to the correspoing value in the OMSAS scale column. Then add up your marks and divide by 10 to get your GPA out of 4.

With the chart, the columns correspond to the grading scales of different universities. We are the only school that uses column 12. So for each grade that you got out of 12, you can line that up with a grade on the 4 point scale, and then average them to get your GPA.
