About your new MSU President:
Chukky is a poet, play write, politico, and literature nerd. He was born in Lagos- Nigeria and has learned to build a home in his beloved Steel City – Hamilton. Chukky is an education advocate. Chukky spent most of his undergrad teaching poetry in high schools, elementary schools, and communities throughout the city. Chukky is also an avid Ti-Cat fan (Oski-wee-wee!). He recently graduated with a double major in Political Science and Communication Studies. His interests include electoral politics, the politics of monarchy, and policy for development.
Chukky volunteered at the Student Success Centre between 2012-13, and worked in the orientation department between 14-16. There he supported several welcome week initiatives including IRIS, the common reading program, McMaster, and McMaster welcome. In 2015 Chukky was elected to serve the social science faculty on the student representative assembly.
His mandate is to connect people with ideas to people with resource. Chukky believes the best solutions emerge through collaboration and innovation. We can leverage our assets to overcome the challenges we face.
This year, Chukky is emphasizing supporting underserved groups at McMaster. He will be consolidating and building programs to improve the experience of students. He will be investing in programs to ensure marauders have access to affordable accessible, and healthy food.
He is also working to ensure students are provided with relevant information to make better financial decisions, and are well resourced to meet their academic demands. Chukky believes every Hamiltonian should have real access to post-secondary education. Chukky will also be working to ensure campus is safe and the McMaster Students Union is well positioned to prevent and respond to gender related violence. Chukky will be working on a post-secondary access strategy to ensure parents, and caregivers are well supported, and young Hamiltonians from structurally disadvantaged communities have a fair shot at accessing post secondary education.
Chukky wants to hear from you and is always willing to listen to you over a coffee. He is only a message away.
