Minor questions
1) How many minors can you declare? The mac website makes it seem like you can only declare 1.
2) if I wanted to do a psych minor but with more focus on "why we do things," what courses would you recommend?
3) What are the odds of them letting me take 1xx3 without having a gr12 biology credit? Do you know of anyone who got to take this class without gr12 bio? Or are they really strict on this prereq. D:
Thanks.
Edit: Seems like a bunch of courses require grade 12 bio... >_<

Hey i am minoring in psych and i never took grade 12 bio.
i was originally planning on majoring in psych so i did have to take bio 1k03 or something like that in first year, but i dont think you have to if you are planning on only minoring in it.
But as far as i know, you dont need grade 12 bio. if anything youll have to take the same 'baby bio' i did which is a first year course and it was easy.
(the only bio knowledge i had was from like grade 10 when we had like intro to bio, and chem and weather etc)
hope this helps

You can try emailing dr kim about prerequisite waivers. If you do not get permission, you have to take grade 12 biology or the first year equivalency couse.
http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /CALEN...nt/pg1729.html
Though lots of courses don't require Psych 1xx3, it is listed as a requirement for the minor.

hmm, I don't have my handbook on me so I don't know his e-mail, and it's not on ELM. D:
I'll tell yah later if someone doesn't get to you first, lol.
But my friend this term wanted to take 1XX3, but couldn't because she didn't have grade 12 bio or the mac equivalent. D:
EDIT: oh, and as for the minors, the most I've ever heard you could take is 2.. After that, I think you'd have to overload. =/
Doesn't really make sense to have like 2 minors, though.
it doesn't show up on your diploma thingie, just your major.

if you're interested in 'why do we do things' I would probably recommend:
Psych 2C03 - Social psychology
Psych 3AC3 - Human sexuality - a large portion of this course is evolutionary explanations of sexuality which explain why our sexual preferences are the way they are - not necessarily an easy course but very interesting
Psych 3F03 - Evolution - i haven't taken this but again it seems to focus on human behaviours

Psych 2TT3- Animal Behaviour mentions humans a bit, but the focus is on Animals (unlike Animal Physiology, where the focus is on humans). I have heard that there is more attention to humans in some of the upper year Animal Behaviour classes.

Cognition is very interesting too, I am currently enrolled in that course, Dr. Water is amazing, he is so passionate about what he does. So far we've learned perception, attention, memory. Some upcoming topics include visual cognition and imagery, categories and concepts, reasoning, language, judgement, decision making, problem solving expertise, and creativity =]
The course code is Psych2H03

None. Most degrees have enough electives to get a minor.
Normally just need 18 credits in level II/III courses.

I emailed Dr. Kim at the beginning of the semester and asked if I could take psych 1xx3, he said without the grade 12 bio/ Bio 1P03 prerequisite I couldn't.
I'm taking Bio 1P03 semester 1 next year, so maybe I'll see ya there

Awesome, although I dont think that applies to engineering...I think I get 4 courses max of electives, but I am gonna do summa school, so it does open up space for a minor

Or you could take Engineering and Society, that's how most people in Eng get minors. You get a lot more electives because your courses are spread over 5 years, not 4.
