Attention undergraduate students - MSU General Assembly 2010 is fast approaching!

The MSU General Assembly (GA) is a public meeting that allows students to have a direct, powerful voice in how their students union is run. If enough students attend, the General Assembly can approve policies and motions that become binding upon the MSU.

GA is more powerful than the SRA, the Board of Directors, and any other MSU bodies. The MSU exists for students, by students; at GA, ordinary students get to call the shots – IF enough students attend! We need 590 of you (3% of the MSU membership) to reach quorum!

This year, GA is being held on March 17th in Burridge Gym to accomodate the large numbers of students we expect to come out! The MSU Spe aker (Naheed Yaqubian) will chair the GA and help attendees with procedural issues. If you have any questions about the procedure at General Assembly - which will be a simplified version of SRA procedures - please feel free to email her at [email protected] ca.

Be sure to check out the General Assembly website and Facebook group! And of course, if you have any thoughts or questions about GA, feel free to post them in this thread!

Come out to Burridge Gym on Wednesday, March 17th from 4:30-6:30PM and make your voice heard!

Please invite all of your friends to the Facebook group- thanks!

I just wanted to say that in planning this year's General Assembly, threads discussing previous General Assemblies on MI were extensively consulted. Meaning: We booked a room where it's more than possible to make quorum.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Question: Why was this motion removed from the updated agenda released today?

Burridge is inside the Ivor Wynne Centre (IWC), which is right next to DBAC. (It's also #24 on this map).

Once you get to IWC, there will be lots of signage and people there to help to ensure that you're able to find your way to Burridge Gym.

Just curious what is the justification for the folding of the Kinesiology caucus?

Chronically unfilled, and many Kin SRA reps in the past have recommended this because Kin students tend to ignore the SRA altogether because Kin Council achieves what they want.

Plus, the seats used to exist because Kin was a multi-disciplinary program, but since Kin is now under Science, it would be the same as what happened to the Med Rad and Social Work seats which were absorbed into their larger faculties.

It's a fair assumption to say that the needs of Kin students (from the MSU) are analogous with the needs of their Science brethren. Nothing against Kin, but it would likely benefit everyone if Kin was folded in.

Not sure that i agree apathy is a great reason to fold representation (especially for a group that in a lot of respects acts independently) but its nice to know there is logic behind it.

Any undergraduate MSU member has the right to not only submit a motion to General Assembly, but to come out and speak for or against motions other people have brought to the table. I hope you come share your opinions with the student body next Wednesday!

100% totally agree. I wish I could like this post 100 more times!

This has been my argument all year, but the stupid rule where the department/faculty society must agree got in my way! It makes absolutely no sense to keep the kin caucus in the SRA.

		Hey Everyone
My name is Aaron Wade and I am outgoing Science SRA and also a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. There is a motion on the G.A. agenda for the MSU to recognize fraternities and sororities. If anyone has any questions about these organizations please free feel to post them, or to email me (my email is on the MSU website, http://tinyurl.com/msuaaronwade).

Cheers,
