MUGSI, TIMETABLES, and SOLAR RE-OPENING

Some information for those confused about timetables and SOLAR re-opening

As per our Important Dates thread (go check it, print it out, put it on your wall with a big smiley sticker), Timetables will begin to be released on TUESDAY AUGUST 6TH.

To check your timetable:
  • Go to MUGSI
  • Click the tab titled 'Timetables'
  • Click the link 2013/09 Session

Now that you can see your timetable, start to plan out if you want to change anything around. Remember, SOLAR opens AUGUST 8th at 8:30am and it is going to be crazy busy when it opens. So have things planned and organized ahead of time so you can be in to make changes quick.

REMEMBER: Elective courses that you may want to switch around are usually full unless people switch out of them, so when one person switches out, it opens up one seat in the course that becomes available. This will happen over and over as some students drop a class, while others pick it up. So when you first go into SOLAR and see a course you want as 'FULL', keep trying again and again because it could open up at any time when someone drops it.

TIP: Utilize the MacInsiders Course Trading Thread to try and arrange a drop/add exchange with another MacInsiders user through Private Message.

I have hope when you say "So when you first go into SOLAR and see a course you want as 'FULL', keep trying again and again because it could open up at any time when someone drops it." Thank you for giving me this hope.

Talk to your academic advisor. Show them your timetable problem (some are really useless and just say go on SOLAR to fix. Show it to them in person if they do that) I wouldn't worry too much since it is a required course for your degree it'll fix itself up. Mac did a swell job this year in timetable creation

On aug 8, how long does solar stay open for? Also, is it worth it to try to long in at 8:30? Is there a time when the rush cools down??

Shouldn't it stay open at least for the entire day? It'll let you know when it'll be closing again, I believe. Also, it being worth it depends on your priorities, availability to try and get on, how bad you want/need certain sections, etc.

Just another question...when solar reopens...do I have to drop out of my current lab/tutorial/core then pik another one? Cuz if they're all full...and I dropped out of my time...is there a way to get my time back? Or does it not drop you out until you select another time?
