Need Help with 1G03 Homework
i watch the movie aftershock: earthquake in new york, and i have to state whether i think that the movie was scientifically accurate or not. I said it was not and I said the reason for that were that new york is not on any fault lines. I need 2 more points as to why a magnitude 7+ earthquake would not occur in NYC. I feel like the plate tectonics are the main reason but since I have to write an essay about this later i need to have 3 points. I'm not too good with essays so I'm really not too sure how to break this up into 3 points that I can argue.

Are you sure there wasn't anymore points you could talk about?

I was given the movie 2012 and there were about 4 'topics' you could easily point out and argue for or against.

Also, check in on your discussion forum on Avenue to see if your TA is helping anyone else out with the problem you're having.

Pretty much there was a 7+ magnitude earthquake in NYC. The only thing I can think about is that there are no plate boundries near NYC. I really don't know what else I could say.

I'm pretty sure its one of those made-for-tv movies, but I haven't seen it unfortunately... if I did I could probably pick out a million things, LOL

This is pretty much the exact clip we watched in class. Just the first 4 1/2 minutes.

Well, I don't know the specifics of the science, but that looked a bit exaggerated to me, especially in New York... the quakes themselves don't last that long... it seemed to me to be a very lengthily-sustained quake, with no real aftershocks? I didn't see a single casualty during the entire clip, LOL

I also hope that the ISO codes that the people who build the structures in New York arn't as ineffectual as that in reality! Obviously tie in course content and the actual geography of New York into it as well (like you already mentioned).
