The Canadian government has no plans to abolish the oath to the Queen. An Irish immigrant is suing the government not to have to take the oath, but the chances of him winning in a commonwealth country are slim to none.

Here's a question. What does the queen actually DO? She doesn't seem to have much say in politics. Is she just a figurehead? Is that why she can't seem to afford a more stylish hat?

I play a bigger in role in politics than her. I actually vote. (She can also vote but chooses not to).

Every new citizen I know wasn't 100% happy about it, and some are less tolerant than others. I think there's more to it, and it is in fact a seed of change. The whole procedure was outdated 50 years ago. The old hag has no power over us, so why should we kneel before her?

We don't need no queen here.

What's wrong with the queen other than she's old and kind of a sourpuss? I don't get why there's so much animosity there (although have you seen Queen Eliz lately? She's got to be close to 1000 years old by now).

As for monarchy in general, I tend to agree... monarchy goes against the basic premise of a democratic society. They used to work (sort of) because the people didn't have any other choice... now we do. Better to toss the bums out every few years to remind them that they're just glorified public servants xD

The line from the Nightmare Before Christmas:

Mayor: Jack, please, I'm only an elected official here, I can't make decisions by myself!

Couldn't find a good meme, sorry...:.)

I have no animosity towards Queen Elizabeth. What bothers me is having the next gen of "royals" (aka normal people who have done squat in terms of achievements and have just been born into royalty) on our money, gracing us with "visits" like we're some peasants they rule over. >__> To me that's the equivalent of having kanye west on your money because that's what I think of these royals---celebrities and nothing more. and the role of governor general is stupid as well. we shouldn't need a queen's representative to oversee our laws. canada is its own country.

I think the only good thing about that, is the fact that they can use the royal baby in the plot for the new Austin Powers movie. Like when Scott Evil is hiring Fat Bastard to eat the royal baby, and Austin has to stop him. The rumor is that the movie is going to be in production soon, so who knows...

I'll be rooting for you Fat Bastard. Don't let me down.

I think it would have been nice if they used "Spencer" as one of the middle names.
