Hehehe Ontarians.
Yeah coverage starts in the school year "You are covered under the MSU Dental Insurance Plan starting September 1, 2007 until August 31, 2008." but it's true that because of the black out period, any claims you send can only be reimbursed after September. You'll still get reimbursed, it'll just take a while.

Who is covered?
The MSU Dental Insurance plan covers full-time undergraduate students at McMaster University enrolled in 18 units or more.
Sorry! Part-time students and graduate students are NOT covered by this plan.
...Doesn't that mean ALL students at Mac are covered? (except part-time/grad students)?
Because in our tuition, we pay for dental coverage (which OHIP does not cover)
And for medical expenses...OHIP doesnt cover things like prescription drugs...so UHIP takes care of paying like 80% of your bill for any prescription drugs you require.

I believe UHIP is different from Dental and Health Insurance.

Everyone at Mac starts of with UHIP (University Health Insurance Plan).
However, you can chose to opt-out of Mac's UHIP program, if you have private insurance.
OHIP covers standard medical issues, such as doctor's appointments. It doesn't cover specialist appointments (physio, psychiatry etc), dental appointments, or prescription drugs.
If you are going into first year, you will only be covered for things that happen after September 1st, when your coverage period starts.

Actually, UHIP is only for international students. It's basically what OHIP is for Ontario students. I think what you're thinking of, lorend, is the MSU Health Insurance, which goes above and beyond what OHIP covers.

Yeah, I think that makes sense because when I clicked "UHIP Summary" on MUGSI, there was nothing to view, and it said I had to contact the office for international students.
So, MSU covers all students with their health and dental plans...and you can opt out of them if you have your own insurence...correct?

Yes. For a lot of students, their parents have insurance coverage through their work benefits that cover children still in school, so as long as your parent's (or your own) insurance coverage is equal to or better than the MSU's insurance, you can opt-out of that coverage and get that portion of your supplementary fees back.
