Operation Wallacea Fundraising Banquet
Operation Wallacea Fundraising Banquet

This summer, three McMaster students will be traveling to Honduras this to volunteer with Operation Wallacea. While there, they will be conducting a biodiversity survey. The cloud forests of Honduras contain a lot of life and are a target for future conservation efforts. As of right now however, the diversity in the forests is widely uncatalogued. Their work will hopefully contribute to the compilation of a full understanding of the life that lives in the forests and allow for successful conservation projects.

In order to raise money for this trip, students have organized a Banquet on June 6th at the University Club at McMaster University. Please find attached the invitation. Feel free to invite any friends or family.

If you have any questions or are interested in purchasing a ticket, please feel free to contact [email protected]. Tickets orders must be placed by Tuesday evening.

Not to be mean but why do people always ask for donations when they volunteer abroad? I wouldn't ask for donations to go to Disney Land. Also, there are more than enough people needing volunteers in Canada. People are going to different countries for the experience not for the sake of just helping others. I just don't understand why they don't pay for it themselves.

Well, going to Disney Land won't help out in terms of getting relevant experience for your future unless you're going into the field of tourism. Furthermore, would you volunteer at Disney Land? That section of your argument is moot.

The interesting facet of Operation Wallacea that you're either ignoring or oblivious to is that it isn't for humanitarian reasons that these people are volunteering. I'm assuming that they want to gain experience in field ecology that they would not be able to have in Canada (or America for that matter) since the last time I checked, we're nowhere near the tropics. It's for the experience to better their education and become better ecologists for the earth's future, not solely Canada's.
