Osap
Hi guys
My question is do I have to submit my parents' tax return information in order to get the OSAP? Because my father is not in the country, and he didn't file the income tax for some reasons. He is just a permanent resident in Canada, and we know that he is going to lose his status, but that's fine. By the way, I am permanent resident as well. Now, I just wondering how to apply for OSAP without giving my parents' information? Thanks in advance.

I would strongly suggest contacting the wonderful people at Student Financial Aid Services to help you with this. OSAP has a rule book about 1500 pages long so those are the folks who will be able to decipher it and help you figure out how to do that.

If you're considered a dependent student, then you have to give your parents' financial information.
When you go through the forms, it asks about income reported on Canadian income tax, and then income not reported on Canadian income tax. So you'd put zero for your father in the first box, and then whatever he earned in the second box.

There might be more to it than that (such as supporting documentation), and as ashleighp said, you should talk to the SFAS office to make sure you do everything properly. It's not something you want to guess at and screw up
