Oscar
Do jobs appear on OSCAR all throughout the year? Or do you miss the boat if you aren't able to get a job that is posted in the beginning of the school year?

Also, when it says that the job listing expires on a certain date, does it mean that no one will be hired before that date?

And one more question! When it says that the position runs from September to April, does that include running through the winter break? Or do you get the same break as all students do between first and second term?

More jobs are posted throughout the year, but much fewer are posted. There are a bunch posted in second term for second term jobs, also a bunch more for summer jobs.

It means you can apply up to that date. But a lot of times jobs are filled as soon as possible (you can still try to apply, but you'll just have a lower chance of getting the job).

About winter break, it might depend on the employer. First get the job and ask your supervisor.

If you want a job for the school year, apply as soon as possible when they are posted. Some employers wait until the end date passes and then looks at all the applicants. Some employers get too many applications later on, and only look at the first couple that distinguished themselves. I find you have a better chance if you apply earlier. Especially if not that many people have applied yet, and you can set up an interview time easily.

Thanks a lot for your replies, guys. That's good to know, otherwise I would have assumed that everyone who applied before the deadline would have an equal chance at getting the job. Though I guess in life it doesn't always work that way!
