You clearly don't know a thing about Islam if you think Islam promotes this stupidity. As a Muslim, I absolutely despise everything and everyone that extremism is the only way to believe in the religion. It's not. A select few of extremists of any religion doesn't reflect on the MILLIONS of people who don't believe in any of these thoughts and do not condone these despicable ideologies.

Tu quoque? You mean an appeal to hypocrisy? The argument seems to be that the ratio of religious extremists (or more so, the ratio of terrorists who justify their actions based on a convoluted interpretation of said religion) to the number of people who peacefully follow the same religion is insignificant regardless of whatever the religion in question is.

Nonetheless, here are multiple sources [1, 2, 3] stating that the shooter was suffering from a drug addiction, mentally ill and looking for an excuse to go to jail for a ‘free ride’. Unfortunately, it looks like some Canadians are getting carried away with placing the blame on “others” and not addressing the root cause of the tragedy.

And I’m sorry - I don’t mean to be ranting - but taken together with the other comments about dropping nuclear bombs and ripping on religions I find it hard to believe that MacInsiders shows a positive side of the community. I log-on to MacInsiders too often and see xenophobic click-bait on the front page. Is this really the first thing we want potential Mac students to see when they log-on to our on-line ‘Student Community’? In all honesty, if anyone’s interested in an active discussion board about Mac that is actually relevant / educational I’d suggest the subreddit /r/mcmaster!

Extremest organizations tend to attract anti-social wack jobs, because joining one gives the said wack jobs a purpose in life and illusion that their actions are relevant (sorta like people who join Green Peace).

Yeah, do the math. A few thousands are VERY few relative to the 1.5+ billion Muslims who aren't involved in any extremist beliefs or actions.

Instead of hiding behind the anonymity of an online forum, take ownership to actually learn something by speaking to people face-to-face or at the very least, be open to others' opinions. No one said anything about changing yours, but we're all in university to learn, so do yourself a favour and don't go through university and life being ignorant just because you refused to open up your mind and expand your horizons jusssst a little bit.
