Painting Clothes: Halloween Costume
Soo, I have a pretty decent idea for a halloween costume but it'd be easier to paint a bunch of clothes I don't care about (don't plan on reusing the clothes, basically)

a) Is it possible? Like, will the clothes become super stiff from the paint/unwearable if I coat the whole thing?
b) What kind of paint should I use?
c) Where can I get it?

Also:

d) Anyone seen a fairly plain and red tshirt/longsleeve in a store recently?
e) I need gloves and a toque. Where can I get these cheap?

Anyways, I'll need red, yellow, and a light/sky blue color.

Thanks!

I've done a fair bit of painting, on a few t shirts + my rep suit. The acrylic paint that Dollarama sells is cheap, and works well. It will dry pretty stiff, so depending on how much/what you need to paint, it might not be the best choice.

Also, the material of the clothes matters a lot. Some shirts suck up paint like crazy, and you'll need multiple layers to get a decent colour. Others the paint just sits on the surface, and one is enough. If you're talking about completely covering a shirt or something, chances are it will take a lot of paint, and will be super stiff.

If you don't need the clothes anymore, bleaching them and then re-dyeing them might be a better option.

a) Yes, you're clothes will become super stiff. Also, depending on the paint you use, it may also give you a rash (at least if its spray paint).

You'll also end up smelling really weird, and nobody will probably want to stay around you for long periods of time.

Well, all I need is a plain red shirt. If I can't find that, that's the most paint I'll need.

Gloves and toque shouldn't require too much paint and I don't think I'll care about the stiffness.

But yea, if anyone's seen a plain/red shirt (preferably long sleeve), let me know where.
And where can I find finger gloves and a pompom toque? (just the cheap kind... haven't bought winter gear in a while)

Really, regular acrylic paint has that strong of a smell?

Oh, I was talking more about interior paints (like the lead based ones) or Spray paint, which I've used before. Both smell pretty bad afterwards to me.

Acrylic paint smells fine IMO, although if you use a lot, it might be stronger.

Old Navy at Limeridge is probably your best bet, but Value Village is also probably a good place to look.

EDIT: That was for the shirt, no idea for hat. Gloves you can probably find a lot of places, but Walmart or Zellars or something would be cheapest.

If you can't find red, a white shirt that you dye is the best bet probably.

This is actually xo.monica, I'm just too lazy to log out of Kyle's thing.

Anyway, I'd say it does quite a bit actually.
I used acrylic paint for my rep suit and it still kinda smells. D:

It'll also make your clothes pretty stiff, but I guess that's with most paints.
I find that acrylic paint is more brighter than other paints.

Well I found a pretty plain shirt at old
Navy so I just have to paint in the lettering and add buttons. I hve to paint the whole hat but I'll try diluting the paint with water and see how it looks with just that. I'll post the results.
