Parking
So I was wondering if anyone can chime in and give me some advice. Is there any parking allowed on some of the side streets that surround Mac? Like you know how some residential streets allow parking... Or would my best bet be to apply for a parking permit?

I see people parked on Emerson all the time, but for convenience's sake, I think a parking pass would be best.

Most side streets near Mac have a 1hr limit.

This is also very strictly enforced.

Yes...but I know someone who parks there regularly (like, on a daily basis). The total number of tickets she gets is still less money than it would be to pay for a parking permit on campus

So hypothetically speaking I guess depending on the street, it is possible to park on side streets and not run into much of a problem? I'm guessing that the consensus behind all that is that it is to be done at your own risk to avoid getting ticketed?

@ nerual - Could I ask how much a standard ticket your friend has received for parking on a side street generally has costed her?

I think it's around $30...not sure if it depends how long you are there for, though.

Just pay for parking. Don't be cheap.

Because buying a vehicle to be able to afford commuting instead of dropping out of school all together isn't a big enough expense. I'd gladly share that silver spoon you have in your mouth with you, with NO hesitation

It's called opportunity costs....you must give up to get something.

Alternatively, a lot of people will park a 15-20min walk away along the bus route (parking tends to be free all day along the side streets further from Mac) and then take HSR onto campus, since you pay for a HSR pass anyways. I saw a lot of people do this on Ewen, Rifle Range, etc.

You obviously do not think before you type, because if your brain was capable in processing what I said and then process what you just said, you would see that giving up on paying for parking would be how I would still manage to afford school

Calling me cheap for asking whether or not there are laws in Hamilton about parking on side streets is ignorant.

+1

The side streets within 1 km radius of the campus are all 1hr limit. However, this is enforced until 6pm so if you got night classes then its no problem. I was able to get away with parking on these streets during the day when I would have 1 or 2 hr classes then I would drive back to my place. I did get a ticket once ($23 I think).

Why would you deal with the hassle of parking in 1 hour parking zones everyday, when you can just park in a parking lot? Pay the school the 360 dollars and deal with it. As with the opportunity costs, you give up your time and money to attend school, and soon enough you'll be making more than enough money once you find a real job.

You must be pretty privileged to think that $360 isn't a big deal. There are plenty of ways to park for cheaper, and if one can do so (relatively) legally without racking up excessive tickets or have their car towed, I would be more inclined to say that they're the smart one, not you.

Besides, I can't afford parking, I need to fuel my V8.
