FYI:
How can you live at residence and commute to/from mississauga that is impossible.

You either live in residence and go home every now and then
or you live in mississauga and commute to mcmaster.

Commute = travel a distance on regular basis. New Oxford Dictionary

To answer your question:
Try WIND they have good plans, or maybe the rogers student plan with unlimited calling txt etc (three year plan)

i'm just as clueless as you, so i may not be of much help, but i heard Wind is a pretty good, cheap local company: http://www2.windmobile.ca/en/Pages/voice-plans.aspx

i might get the 29$/month plan
that, or just pay as you go :/

If your thinking prepaid try 7-11 SpeakOut! You can either top up your account online or just go to a 7/11 store and get vouchers ($15, 25, 50, 100). This is the only provider I know of that keeps your balance for 1 year! Most only allow 30 days and your balance is gone. Most features are also free (ie. caller id, voice mail etc). Also, bonus for Android users you can get the $10 unlimited web browsing (only internet) BUT with some tweaks and mods found on xda developers you can pretty much make is act like a full blown unlimited data plan.

i like the rogers unlimited student plans they are a bit pricy? 40$ but really good, unlimited texts, unlimeted social networking (so facebook msn twitter without data fees) and a bunch of other stuff. you also get a lot of minutes and my 5. so its really good in the end. also depending on where you get it you can get a free smartphone.

I'd get the new $29 plan from WIND. Unlimited talk, text and data. Better than any deal out there and you won't go out of the coverage area so it's perfect for someone like you. You can get the BlackBerry Curve 3G for $0 on the WindTAB.

ah actually, a friend just told me about this, and i think i might go with it...

http://mobility.petro-canada.ca/en/features/401.aspx
http://mobility.petro-canada.ca/en/phones/133.aspx

there's a 9$ phone when you buy the 50$ airtime (200 mins for 6 months of service)

if i were to get a phone in uni, i'd use it JUST for calls, that's it (and i don't really care about how unknown the phone or brand is or even how it looks, as long as it works lol). So the anytime plan is pretty good...for me at least

you could always go prepaid, and buy a $100 card which goes for 365 days as well (on virgin and telus, not sure about other companies). If you go with telus, and want unlimited text, you can get a package for 10 bucks a month, or if you don't text that much, you could get the 250 texts for $5 plan, and then have money left over for emergency calls and whatever. It's the perfect plan for those who need a phone for moderate texting but don't talk too much on it.

Just use pay as you go. It costs me like 10 a month depending on how much I text or call. That's all you need a phone to do.

If you rarely call & rely mainly on texting like I do, go with a prepaid plan (Ex. Fido) and apply the 2,500 text add-on for $10.

Check if your area in Mississauga is in a WIND Home Zone. If so, go for it.

Otherwise sign with TELUS and get a sick android phone.
