physics 1B03 - differences btw new edition and old edition
I was just wondering if anyone has bought the new edition of the physics textbook by knight yet and can post their table of contents.

I have the old edition and haven't been successful in trying to find the differences btw the new and old text on google =(

thanks

Hmm... according to the textbook website, what's new are:
  • Special Emphasis on using and interpreting graphs is in both the textbook and the accompanying Student Workbook to further develop the use of multiple representations.
  • “Annotated figures” have become an even stronger part of the pedagogy to build on their proven effectiveness.
  • Worked examples are built around real-world scenarios to enhance the accessibility and relevance of the material.
  • Hand-drawn sketches are incorporated into select worked examples to provide a clear model of what students should draw during their own problem solving.
  • The end-of-chapter problems are rated by students to show difficulty level with the variety expanded to include more real-world, challenging, and explicitly calculus-based problems.
  • The revised Workbook is tightly integrated with the main text – following the same textbook strategies, and is explicitly referenced throughout the text. Conceptual questions have been moved from the Workbook into the textbook to provide qualitative and/or discussion questions in the textbook and to allow the Workbook to focus on hands-on drawing, graphing and sketching exercises.
  • A chapter on optical instruments and a handful of additional, new subtopics have been added.
Nothing too serious. Just moved examples and better pictures and such.

thank you =)

so just double checking, the prof said that some sections have been moved around, do you know if the chapters in the same order and under the same section (eg. 1.7 in the old edition is still 1.7 in the new edition?)

Unfortunately not, but just ask someone in class to borrow it for 30 seconds just to use it! Hughes said that only stuff in the first couple of chapters are switched.

These sound like really neat additions to what was already a decent text!

The older version is very good too. If your instructor says both editions will do, then you could just go with the older and cheaper version.
