Profs hiding eval results
Once course evaluations are completed, the results are usually posted on MUGSI, and searchable either by course or by the professor. However, some profs have their results hidden, does anyone know why they are allowed to do this/do you agree with them being able to do this?

I honestly think they should always be released...the results should be for both students potentially taking a certain course and for the professors to use to better their selves if they so choose to.

Some faculties have a blanket policy of not releasing evaluation results. You have to respect privacy issues. It would be hell to be the object of an ill-motivated vendetta.

But what privacy issues? It is pure anon compiled data. It just seems wrong that they can just hide a bad eval

'Twould be funny though if this backfires and students assume that any hidden evaluation is a bad evaluation.

Well, you know what they say: if you've got something to hide, you probably will to to save your hide ...

There is a McMaster policy that says that summaries of course evaluation results are supposed to be made available for students. But I have never seen a course eval summary in my life! Turns out that professors can chose to not reveal the results, but need to formally "opt out" of doing so (I'm guessing each term). Obviously, it is doubtful that almost every professor on campus does this. I contacted the MSU about this a few months ago, and they said they were going to look into the issue. Haven't heard anything since...kinda disappointed.

Mac probably does not want to make it public that certain courses go year after year with terrible evaluations (and same prof) with no changes.

What's the point? There many websites that offer course evaluations postings. All year round.

Could it be that the results have not yet been inputted? Inputting into MUGSI usually takes time or the prof might be busy marking exams, etc. and hasn't got around to inputting yet?

No, this is deliberate. Even from courses that took place two years ago if you search on MUGSI it will say 'instructor has declined the release of evaluation results' or something like that.
