Question about Charity Ball
I'm just wondering, what's it like? Is it like a highschool dance/prom, where it's just a DJ and dancing all night?
I checked the Facebook page and it says there are themed rooms, silent auction, etc.
I would go with my boyfriend, but he refuses to dance. So is it worth the $40 (and the money for a new dress) to go? Or will we have nothing to do if we're not dancing the whole time?
Thanks!
Also, do people dress to the theme, or do you just wear formal clothes (guy - suit, girl - dress)?

If you want your boyfriend to go with you, just tell him that if he doesn't, you're gonna go dance with a bunch of other guys. If he says he doesn't care, then maybe you should have a little talk.
Relationships aside, and despite never having been there, I think you can just wear general formal clothes without fitting a theme, so yes, a dress for you and a suit for him. 'Course, there are no strict rules to follow, but you'll probably get stared at and talked about behind your back if you stray too far from the norm.
As for whether it's worth the $40, if you like helping charities out and/or dressing up, then yes, it probably is. I like dinners with my formals though, so it doesn't really appeal to me.

If you're not gonna dance at all (even out on the floor alone or with a bunch of girls, etc), then its not reeeally gonna be worth your money as much as it could be...
Theres live music, the silent auction, you're supporting a cause, socializing, gambling, and yeah..
He doesn't dance at all, or just slow dancing? Because theres more than that. Either way, he sounds kind lamezor. Get some booze in, and maybe he'll dance.. even if its grinding -- hahahaha.
tldr: if you have girlfriends who are going, go and dance with them, he can sulk in a corner or whatever, and gambling is fun

I think saying "He refuses to dance" makes it sound bad! My mistake. He just doesn't really like dancing, and I'm okay with that. I don't mind if we don't dance. I just want to make sure there's other stuff to do so we're not bored to death.

I'd say it's definitely worth goingg, dancing or not.
You're correct about the themed rooms and silent auction, there should also be a casino, I believe. They have that every year. That being said, no, it's most definitely NOT like a high school prom. Much more sophisticated.
As far as clothing goes, you can just wear a dress and your man a suit. You're allowed to dress to match the theme if you'd like, but 99% of people dress regularly. There are usually people hired to dress according to the theme, and you can take pics and pose with them, etc.
Definitely fun stuff to look at/do, but dancing is obviously a fun/important/big part of the night.
Honestly, MAKE HIM GO. My bf at the time hated dancing but I made him go & even HE had fun and admitted it was a lot better than he expected. he even DANCED.

Thanks for the replies guys! It sounds like I will be making him go
This goes to anyone, but probably more to girls who have been before: how fancy should my dress be?
I've never been to any dances outside of highschool/prom, so I don't really know what to wear! I don't want to be too under- or over-dressed. I assue any type of dress you would find at Le Chateau would be good?

Hi guys, random question. Does anyone know the name of the jazz band that played in the webster room "Ritzy's" at the charity ball this past February? They were amazing!
