Question about Enviro Sci 1A03
Is this a course where you can get a 10 without doing any readings? Put another way, can you do well in this class just from lecture slides, and attending class/labs?

hey, i took this course couple years ago with Bernier (i think he is still it this year)...the course is very nice and so is the prof. that being said u do have to put in some effort to get a 10+ since the labs can be time consuming. midterms and exams are very fair and he does give u a few hints ..course material is also interesting (u learn how rain/snow/hail/clouds/thunderstorms etc develop)

not an easy course. labs are challenging and the midterms/exam are tricky

Nice, that's great. Do you think you guys could address my question? Do you have to read the text to excel in this class?

thanks.

the labs are very annoying.. easy but annoying to do .. the course material itself is not difficult you can easily get a high mark , just go to class and pay attention and you'll do good.. i just found that whenever i had big tests or lots of things to do i would have something annoying like a lab to finish from 1a03

Although the prof will randomly include some online quiz questions based upon material found in the text, I found the text was absolutely unnecessary in order to do well. All you need to do is understand the notes and study them thoroughly, and you are guaranteed a 12.

As exuberant888 says, the textbook is mainly good for the online quizzes you'd get once in a while. Just make sure you go to class, since the lecture notes are fill in the blank style.

I tried keeping up the reading and I eventually just skimmed over the chapter. I think it's a good rule in first year that the textbook is suppose to supplement the lectures opposed to be testable.

But other than that a 12 just requires effort and not much else.
