Question about PNB
Hi so i'm going into PNB (going into second year) with hopes of getting into med school later on. However i have a question regarding course selection. What courses should be taken for med school ? i know most med-schools in canada do not require prereqs, but which courses you need for MCATS. I was thinking of taking all required courses for second year and Organic chem as an elective. However i'm wondering if i need anything for bio.
If someone went through the same experience your feedback would be greatly appreciated

help is much appreciated

You'd really need to look into each med school's specific requirements. Some schools require a full year of physics with labs, some require you to take a certain number of units of english or a humanities course, etc. In terms of prepping yourself for the MCAT, from what I've heard, it covers chemistry, biology, physics, organic chemistry, verbal reasoning and as of 2015 it will include a social science-type portion. I doubt you'll need any upper year biology courses to do well on the mcat, so organic chemistry and a bit of review for the other sections (based on your first year knowledge) will probably be enough. If you're not sure though, maybe drop by the SCCE or Academic Advisor's office for more information?

Also, the MCAT website lists the material that is covered. Any MCAT prep book will do the same. Based on that, you can figure out which courses would be helpful. You don't "need" to take any in any particular subject area. For example, plenty of people don't take 1B03+1BB3 physics, and they'll just teach themselves what's needed for MCAT or they'll take an MCAT course.
