Hm, according to that link, Mac officially calls reading week the "mid-term recess"...

...all I can think of is this:

I wish.

I thought reading week had to do with suicide prevention?

The reason that some schools have a reading week first term is due to suicide prevention...I am not sure if that is the reason for the one in February or not though.

Waterloo engineers get a special "reading week" that no one else does.

Also, everyone at York has Fridays off. Literally, everyone. I don't know a single person that attends York and doesn't have Fridays off. What is this.

The week off in February is just to give students a little bit of a break from having to write midterms and do assignments. You might still have work to do during that week but at least there's nothing due then.

No classes is pretty much the definition of reading week
Although my friend at UofOttawa had a midterm or something during reading week once...but that was some weird messed-up case.

Nov 30-Dec7 is normal class time...you just can't have any tests during this time period.
