It seems like it's meant to coincide with Family Day, which makes sense; why not make it so a stat holiday falls during a week off for students? Doesn't mess up the schedule like Thanksgiving does.

Agreed. I really don't see why second term has a reading week at all universities, but first term doesn't. Not sure of the logic behind that ..

Eh, if we were to have a second reading week, I would think we need to start school a week early, pushing frosh week back into the end of August instead of the very start of September.

Somehow, York manages to start school after us (they start on the monday I believe, not the thursday before), they have a reading week, and all my friends last year were done exams WAY before I was .. meaning at least 5-7 days ahead. I'm still not sure how they manage to do all that! :S
