Referencing a video/ picture
Referencing a photo/video:

Let's say for instance I find a video clip on Youtube. Can I a) reference Youtube as the source and incorporate it into my presentation? Also b), if the video on Youtube is obviously from another source e.g. an educational film, am I obligated to find the original source or can I still reference Youtube as the source of the video?

The same question for pictures. Am I obligated to find the original owner or can I get by by just referencing the site where I found the photo.

You should usually reference the original owner. Sometimes in articles, they reference other articles. If you are using that part of the article then you should read article is references. I assume the same would go with pictures and videos. But you can ask your professor or TA if they are that strict about it.

Yeah, original owner is what matters unless the other person adds something of significance like a commentary or another video, which is a whole new can of worms.

Here is how you would cite:

APA

Norton, R. (2006, November 4). How to train a cat to operate a light switch [Video file]. Video posted to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vja83KLQXZs

MLA

Shimabukuro, Jake. "Ukulele weeps by Jake Shimabukuro." 04 April 2008. Online video clip. YouTube. Accessed on 22 April 2006. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puSkP3uym5k

As for pictures, you would include information from both the original artist and where you got it from.
