Registrar Clarification
Trying to figure out what this means. Any insight appreciated:
Introduction to the principles and techniques underlying the use of Geographic information systems (GIS) for capturing and visualizing geographically referenced information. Databases, models and cartographic principles are also introduced emphasizing the production of effective thematic maps using GIS software.
Two lectures, one lab (two hours); one term
Prerequisite(s): One of ISCI 1A24, MATH 1A03, 1AA3, 1B03, 1D03, 1LS3, SOC SCI 2J03, STATS 1CC3, 2B03. One of ENVIR SC 1G03, GEOG 1HA3, 1HB3 (GEO 1HS3, 1HU3) is recommended. Prerequisite (Beginning 2010-2011): One of ENVIR SC 1G03, GEOG 1HA3, 1HB3 (GEO 1HS3, 1HU3)
Cross-List(s): ENVIR SC 2GI3, EARTH SC 2GI3
Antirequisite(s): GEO 2I03
------------------------------------------------------------------
Specifically looking at the Prereq. beginning next academic year. Does this mean that the previous prerequisites do not apply? I am wondering then, if you do not need a math to take it as previously needed, and instead just one of the Geo's?
Contacting the registrar on Monday, just hoping this can be cleared up before then.

It means that beginning in 2010-2011, one of those particular courses will be required, as opposed to simply being
recommended. You will still need one of those math courses. In other words, starting next year, you will need one of: ISCI 1A24, MATH 1A03, 1AA3, 1B03, 1D03, 1LS3, SOC SCI 2J03, STATS 1CC3, 2B03, and need one of ENVIR SC 1G03, GEOG 1HA3, 1HB3 (GEO 1HS3, 1HU3) to get into the course.
I'm completing the GIS certificate along with my undergrad and it's super useful and a great asset to have, so kudos to you for looking into it!

How much high-level math is actually required? Do you think someone coming out of highschool with high 90's in both math's could get into the course w/o doing a first year calc?

It's not calculus that you need, it's a solid understanding of statistics. I would recommend ensuring that you understand statistics very well, not so much for the intro (second year) course, but moreso for the upper year courses should you continue to take them.

Do you think a student, therefore could obtain a pass- into the course by doing well in 12th grade maths, as well as the first year geo's? I am just trying to determine if it will be necessary for one to take a math during the summer, or if one could get away with not.

Probably, I didn't have the strongest math background although the course may have changed since I took it three years ago. You'll probably be okay with basic intro-level/high school math.
