I took this course last year. It was a pretty interesting and fair course.
We discussed the basic of Islam (pillars, quran, life of the prophet, sects etc.) as well as a fair bit of history.
I can't find the course outline, but here's what I remember:
1 midterm (some MCQs and essay question)
2 assignments (critiques of articles)
exam (same format as test)
Before a test, the prof usually gives you a list of terms you need to know and themes you should focus on (helpful for the essay questions).
Also for the assignments, make sure you get as much guidance from your TA as possible and have them check over your thesis.
Personally, I enjoyed the course. The professor was very nice and approachable. And since I don't really enjoy writing lots of essays, I found the essays on the tests to be quite manageable (more focus on content rather than style).
Also, if you decide to take this course, I'd be happy to sell you the books and my class notes. PM for details.
