"A computerized lottery determines which students are guaranteed a space, or placed on the waiting list. Students will be emailed with the lottery application results.

-If a student is guaranteed a space as a result of the lottery, they must maintain a 5.0 sessional average to remain on the guaranteed list
- If a student is placed on the waiting list, as a result of the lottery and achieves Dean's Honours (9.5 or higher GPA), they will be guaranteed a residence space."

I'm pretty sure that means in order to keep your spot in residence you need to maintain a 5. But if you're on the waitlist you don't need to maintain a 5, I believe.

Wait, maybe not.

"Students with a sessional average below 5.0 will be notified and given instructions on the Appeal process.
  • Students submitting an appeal by the deadline will be contacted with a decision once the review has taken place.
  • If the appeal is denied, students will be issued a full residence deposit refund and their application will be cancelled."
I'd suggest contacting housing to ask.

I think that appeal is just if you're given a spot and it gets taken away due to your average falling below a 5, because you wouldn't have given a deposit if you weren't assigned a space in residence.

So yeah, if you're on the waiting list you don't need a 5, but everyone on the wait list with 9.5+ will get assigned before you...and if you're assigned a spot by the random draw but you end up with an average less than five, you lose that spot.

You have to give a deposit when you apply to residence in the first place. You get it back if you don't get a spot.
