Reminder for all Users: MacInsiders Terms of Service
Reminder for all Users: MacInsiders Terms of Service
To All MacInsiders Users,
The current striking position of CUPE 3906 has raised the tension levels amongst students during an already stressful time of the year. Students are worried about the allocation of their marks and if their classes will continue, while union members are concerned for their students' education as well as paying their bills.
Regardless of what side you may fall on in terms of CUPE's decision (for, against, indifferent or confused) you must abide by the MacInsiders Terms of Service when posting on our forums. In using our site, you are agreeing to the Terms of Service.
As of late, there has been a lot of inappropriate language on our site which goes against our Terms of Service. Specifically, members have been ignoring the MacInsiders Code of Conduct which clearly explains how members should be interacting with each other on the forums.
Specifically, please look at the following sections:
2. Respect one another. MacInsiders encourages upholding The Golden Rule whereby everyone is treated with respect and enjoys their time on the site and being part of our community. When in doubt about whether a post will break this rule, don't post it. Take a deep breath, check your facts, etc. It's better to wait if you are unsure of something or too frustrated to think clearly. MacInsiders encourages and promotes discussion that is insightful, solution-oriented, open, honest, factual, and constructive.
3. Profanity/Language: Mild profanity is allowed in the context of general speech. As an example: a student posting that something is “kick-ass” or “solving a problem was a bitch” should be acceptable given the audience. Explicit profanity/swearing as well as vulgar language is not allowed, and under no circumstances will we allow any profanity to be directed toward another person. Please try to write your posts in English, as that is the language most commonly used on this site. Do not write posts in all uppercase letters, as it looks as if you are screaming at the people reading your post. Typos and other errors can cause miscommunication between users on the forums, please preview your text before posting.
5. Bashing, Flaming And Condescending Messages: Bashing and Flaming is strictly forbidden on MacInsiders. Messages personally attacking, calling names, or otherwise harassing or being condescending to another forum member or any ethnic or religious group will be removed or hidden from the public for further review, based on the decision of MacInsiders Staff. Messages containing embarrassing, confrontational, objectionable, libel, slander, vilification, defamation, and/or smear campaigns will also be removed and/or subject to moderation. Also, posting information that is known to be false is prohibited and will be subject for moderation. If a thread turns into pure flaming, it will be locked or removed without notice. Sometimes a Staff member may split the thread or delete certain portions in order to keep the discussion going. If you believe a message or comment posted by a user is questionable, click on the "Report" icon inside the post and it will be brought to the attention of MacInsider's Staff.
10. Inclusivity: Remember that these forums are inclusive of ALL people, and we strive to maintain accessibility to everyone.
Members who do not abide by our Code of Conduct and/or Terms of Service will have their posts edited or removed at the descresion of the MacInsiders executive. Continuing to ignore the Terms of Service and/or Code of Conduct may result in a temporary or permanent ban from MacInsiders.
If you feel that somone has made an inappropriate comment, please report them. Each post has a report button, which sends an email to the MacInsiders executive staff who then determine if the content in the post goes against the Code of Conduct and/or Terms of Service. If this is the case, the post is edited and/or deleted, and the poster is notified for breaching the Terms of Service/Code of Conduct.
Some important words to remember at this time: "A person is a person, no matter how small". Regardless of your opinion, ever person in this matter is human and should be treated as such.
The goal of MacInsiders is to maintain an inclusive environment for all persons in the McMaster community: prospective students, undergraduate students, graduate students, alumni, or McMaster staff. Please help us keep it that way!
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact myself or the MacInsiders President, Chad Fullerton.
Sincerely,
Danielle Lorenz

Good call posting this. Many people (myself included) need a little kick in the ass once in a while to keep things civil.
