Requisite Question
I am on mugsi right now and I have found an elective that is available. When I put "verify, etc" it stops me because my courseload is too much but it says my requisite for that elective "PASSED" and when I checked the undergrad calendar there is a prereq for it but I haven't fulfilled it, can I still get in the course? (I don't want to drop a current elective for it if I'll be kicked out in the end, then it'll be hard to find a new elective)

If it's because your courseload is too high, you can't take the course unless you have permission to overload. You can only get permission if you have a 7.0 or higher CA.

I don't want to take more courseload, I just didn't drop one of my electives yet. I want to drop one of my electives for that new elective but I want to know if I can legitimately take it. It says "PASSED" for it, even though prereq for it is 3 units of level one of a certain department

You can drop it and see if it takes, if it doesn't you can just exit. Your courses shouldn't change if you don't confirm it.

Yeah, they shouldn't, but they might. I was giving my friend my spot in immuno, and I had my account open on one computer and hers open on another. I selected 'drop' from the drop-down menu, and pressed whatever button makes it actually drop the course so that it says DROP beside the course code in black letters. I didn't do the verify changes thing or confirm anything, but I was able to add immuno immediately on my friend's account (even though it had been full for her 30 secs earlier). So, someone could snipe your spot as soon as you drop it, even if you haven't confirmed.

Do you guys think it would be wise to take it even if I haven't taken the prereqs? Or just wait until someone from the department of Anthro replies to my email I have just recently sent them about it?

What is the course? Generally, prereqs are there for a reason. Sometimes it's just to keep people from taking the course as a bird elective, in which case it's not actually necessary to succeed in the course. It depends on the course though...Like, would it be wise to take 2nd year organic chem after not taking (or failing) first-year chem? Probably not But, if you're otherwise quite strong in English, and the prerequisite for a course is any english course at Mac, you could probably get away with it--it just might be a little bit more work.
The department is your best bet, though...I think they have the right to deny you the credit if you don't have the prerequisites and don't talk to someone about it.

Thanks! I was talking about Anthro 2PC3. I e-mailed the department and they said that I (obviously) DO need the prerequisite and that they're sorry.
