If you want a warehouse job or whatever I guess employers would check people's social networks to see any signs of criminal/unresponsible behaviour. If you're looking for a real career, "generation Y" is not in power quite yet, so not having a large <false> following online is quite acceptable. Also bosses don't want to know what toilet brand you use.

I agree with you Adrian,
It depends what you want to portray on your twitter. But if you are driven to one subject or topic. Like say Apple's Twitter is very good at showing future projects and announcements. It's a hype builder for sure.
But they say 26 million people will be using twitter this year, so 26 million people can't be wrong. It depends what you use it for.

Gen Y doesn't huge companies, but they are in management positions in lots of companies. The oldest people in the Gen Y demographic are 28-29.
Also, I think a lot of people don't understand the difference between the different ways you can Tweet. A lot of people mis-use it (and talk about pointless crap), but those who use it well do so to brand themselves. Hiring is all about selling a personal brand.
Lastly, if you use a platform like Hootsuite (which I use for MI, my own twitter account and we use at work) you can manage most of your social networking accounts (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, others) simultaneously as well as see what your "reach" is. It's really interesting.

Huge lols: Fake G20 Rumours.
My favourite: @tonydurke: Instead of tear gas the #police will fire canisters of date-rape-drug. "We'll **** these hippies one way or another!" #G20FakeRumours

Thanks for the follows and I have stayed true to my word and I have added everyone that has added me
And I am getting to know a few people that I would probably never go out and meet. So this is a good experiment I would say. Great for networking!
