Ridiculous MSU fees!
After looking at this under MUSGI account statement, I balked at the MSU fees they are charging me:

MSU-MEMBERSHIP FEE - 111.49
MSU-REFUGEE FEE - 1.38
MSU-HEALTH PLAN - 45.00
MSU-UNIVER. CENTRE 30.0 UTS - 90.00
MSU-CFMU-FM - 16.36
MSU-MARMOR - 8.51
DENTAL PLAN - 95.00
MSU-STUDENT SERVICES 30.0 UTS - 122.70

Apparently the MSU is getting $490.44 per student. Say there are 5,000 registered full time students, that gives us a whopping $2,452,200.00!

What the heck is MSU doing with that kind of money? All I know is that there are MSU president wannabes. Last year I voted and the voting turnout was so low and plus, why would the MSU let the students vote whether we should have Coca-Cola products or not. The majority voted no and MSU went ahead with Pepsi? Jeez!

Any chance I can have that $490.44 back?

*edit*

Oh, I definitely opted out for health and dental plan. So, how about $350.44? Any way I can salvage it? Bwaah.

Not sure, HSR is listed but I didn't add it here because it doesn't say MSU HSR, just HSR.

I feel like there's more detailed information about these fees out there that I seem to remember being posted on here before.

The one labeled UTS obviously helps to fund the University Technology Services so all the computers and technology around campus that students have access to is what this portion goes toward in some form. There seem to be two separate UTS fees though, one is clearly labeled student services, the other is somewhat vague. This is a huge chunk of change though, I'd be interested to know the details on what both fees actually fund. All in all though it seems somewhat reasonable to help fund the technology available on campus for our use and its maintenance.

Dental and Health are straight forward and as you obviously know you can opt of of these fees if you don't need the coverage.

The Marmor is obviously a small fee but its for a yearbook so when you graduate you're supposed to automatically get a yearbook because you paid this fee for 3-4 years. I guess the importance of this fee to you depends on whether or not you care about getting a yearbook.

The CMFU-FM is the campus radio station, obviously this portion goes toward funding that. How useful or beneficial to most of the student body this is is sort of questionable.

The HSR fee as someone mentioned is also straightforward, this is your year long bus pass. Depending on how much you go out this is potentially very valuable and useful during your time at Mac.

The refugee fee is to help fund education for refugees. Pretty straightforward and only $1.38 to help others gain an education. That said its again questionable whether or not students should be forced to support this endeavor.

Isn't there also an OPRIG fee? I know you can opt-out of this by going to their office but its like $7 so I doubt many people take the time out to do it. Again, its questionable whether or not students should be forced to support an organization like this.

They're like human rights, environmental and social justice activists from what I gather.

Oh I see now.

I'm bad with acronyms. I always write LMAFO, when it should be LMFAO.

OVL stands for overload. So if you're in science for example, a full course load is 30.0 credits. If you choose to take 33.0 credits, it shows up as 3.0 OVL in your tuition fees.
