Gotta say I'm gonna miss his presence in federal politics even though I'm a Conservative. While I disagreed with a lot of his political views, one can't help but respect the role he played in reviving Canadian democracy from basically a dominant party system, reviving federalism at the federal level in Quebec and building the NDP from a moribund husk into the official opposition.

I've also got to say the last line of his last letter was both touching and inspiring. For those who haven't read his letter:

"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we'll change the world."

RIP Jack Layton

A man of the people...I didn't agree with his political standpoint, but out of all politicians, I had the most respect for him. He was a true fighter, and his work ethic was second to none.

There was a woman on the news who said that he could be reached at all times of the day and night...always there for everyone, and spoke to you 1 on 1.....just goes to show you the type of man he was. The NDP and Canadian politics will not be the same without him. He is truly missed.

RIP Jack Layton

It makes me all the more proud to have voted and stood for him.
It makes me proud to be a Canadian to know we had someone like him working for us. I just wish we could appreciate people like that while they are alive rather then speaking about how great they were in their memory
