Saturday is still a school day so professors are allowed to reschedule lectures to Saturday if they wish (If there's a snow day for example) as well as scheduling anything else school related (ex: tests). It doesn't happen very often though.

That's not true. There are a number of third and fourth year classes on saturdays, according to the master timetable.

But yeah, it states in some university document that you should expect to have academic commitments Mon-Sat. Typically that's just midterms or exams, but rarely it could be lectures.

No classes on Saturday or Sunday...we only had economic midterms on Saturday. Also, I wouldn't recommend working in first year engineering...especia lly in first year !
1. First year engineering is a new experience and will take up a lot of your time.
2. You will get behind in your classes very quickly and the only way to get back on top of everything would be to develop good time management skills.

Therefore I wouldn't recommend working on the weekend...the weekend is your only time to catch up ! Some people might argue with me, but personally I wouldn't recommend getting a job in first year engineering.
