it's probably a good idea as it explains a lot of stuff about academics and mcmaster, as well as talks about what you can do with your degree.
or so says the blurb in the course calendar i'm holding in my hand right now.
i bet it will be a good pre-curser to science 2EL0 (a non-credit career planning course) which is rumoured to be offered next year.

Blurb from HERE:
Quote:
September is drawing near and soon you will be coming to McMaster University and possibly moving away from home for the first time. We realize that, although this is the start of an exciting experience, it may also be somewhat intimidating and overwhelming. To help first-year science students adjust to university, we have designed an entirely web-based, university survival course (Science 1B00). This voluntary, no credit course will help you learn about McMaster, your Faculty and Student Services. This course will teach you where to find the appropriate resources and assistance should you encounter any challenges or difficulties while you are here at McMaster.
Although you are not required to complete this course, we encourage you to participate in it as it has been designed to help you save time and help your other courses run more smoothly. There are eight modules in total, each consists of a quiz and assigned readings. Some will be brief, others will take more effort, but you will be able to complete them easily.
|
Description from here:
Quote:
Web-based (through WebCT) introduction to university life and expectations. University services and resources available to students will be covered. Modules, consisting of quizzes and assignments, will include such topics as basic orientation, library usage, time management, academic dishonesty and career options. Online surveys (for students to give their views on the course) are to be completed in both December and April (follow-up).
|
If it's web-based over WEBCT then it can't be that hard. Also, that means you have more flexibility (you can do the work over WEBCT at home) and its one less lecture to have to walk to during the week
What do you lose if you don't take it? ... you lose some useful knowledge that may help you down the road. But the course is voluntary, so you don't need to take it. However, if it is online over WEBCT, its not too big of a fuss to take it.

It doesn't look like it. I can't find that course anywhere. You do have to take science 1A00 though. You'll need it because it's a co-requisite for Bio 1A03. It's just a safety course, you can complete it in like an hour. You just watch a video and then do a quiz.

About Science 1A00, would I still have to take it even though first year Bio is a transfer credit for me? Or would I still have to take it b/c I'm taking Kinesiology courses as well?
