Seeking Student Support for the Wilson Building (new Liberal Arts Building)

Last week, McMaster University administration presented their request for funding of the new Liberal Arts building to the provincial government. The Wilson Building is the number one building priority for McMaster and their request to the government included both the Wilson Building, as well as additional funds to revitalize many of the current Arts Quad buildings. In order to help ensure the success of the University’s efforts, student support is needed! The McMaster Students Union, in concert with Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts and Science students, is launching a letter writing campaign to show our combined support.

Attached is a letter that you can download and email to Minister John Milloy or the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. All you need to do is fill in your name and faculty information. Or, you can come by the MSU Office (MUSC 201) and sign your name to a letter that we will send out for you!

The Wilson Building will provide room for 1,000 additional undergrads, nearly 400 new graduate students and increase classroom space by 30%. As well, it will be filled with the latest state-of-the-art equipment. Show your support and get involved in the campaign.

Download the letter here.

Pretty sure the University should focus on fixing garbage infrastructure with its other buildings before embarking on some quest to put a new one up. The fact that Thode can't even get working power outlets--yet the Lyons Media Centre gets an exorbitant number of PS3/Wii/360/gaming-PCs, TVs, etc.-- is an outrage.

Oh great. Another building... you planning on pushing for more residences to compensate for the influx of students as well?

How about upgrading and expanding current facilities? Wouldn't that be cheaper and quicker to do?

How about we write letters telling them not to build this? This just seems like a waste of money considering everything else.

I totally agree.. The ISci's pretty much dominate that floor, and they're like what 60 people in each year of the program? While all the other floors are PACKED.. Ridiculous!

Outside of Thode, It's an extension to the Tandem Accelerator building.. i.e. the Nuclear Reactor Building. Update here.

I would be all for this building if I didn't already feel as if there was room for improvement in the school as it is right now.

"The Wilson Building will provide room for 1,000 additional undergrads, nearly 400 new graduate students"

Which means. the year its completed, well see an additional 1500 undergrads and 550 new graduate students.

This school is too damn busy, too full. Especially now that certain areas are basically owned by tiny programs.
