Semester Overload. 18 units then 12
Hey guys,

Im trying to figure out my timetable at the moment and I can't get some courses to work out with eachother. I was wondering if it is possible to take six courses in the first semester then 4 in second semester...or will this cause and overload error on SOLAR.

Thanks!!

I believe you need permission from the department in order to overload if you're in 2nd or 3rd year, and your C.A. needs to be at least like a 7 or something.

If you're going into 4th year, you automatically have permission to take an extra 6 units and overload in each term, as some need to do this in order to graduate on time.

Also, OSAP has freaked out in the past & demanded an even course load in some cases, so that's something to consider.

Actually, you don't need special permission, since 18+12 isn't considered overloading. It is calculated on a sessional basis, and you have 30 units in the session. You can do it yourself on SOLAR.

Idk about the OSAP issue, though.

Altogether it is 30, but I've had issues in the past where it wouldn't let you take more than 5 courses a term, unless you had permission. :S

Email academic advisor to be sure

Hmm. I took 7 in one term and zero in another, one year. I tried to register for 9 in one term but it didn't like that Seven (21 units) was okay, though :S

One of my friends did the 18/12 thing in first year. It's doable, but you might get lazy in the second term due to being burnt out though

Oh wow! Suppose it depends on the program/year... Good for you, though

Also, trying to register for 7 courses in 1 term is madness. Im gonna have 6 and I'm already stressing lol

Yes, SOLAR won't let you register for more than 15 credits/semester.

Last year I did 12 and 18 without special permission. It might have changed though.
