So, CUPE is also pulling UofT into the strike mix
http://cupe.ca/postsecondary/local-3...cturers-strike
Sessional instructors at the University of Toronto, members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) local 3902, Unit 3, will be in a legal strike position on Monday November 9.
I'm sure York is laughing now.

I remember when we were accepting our offers, I had read that while York was getting a terrible rap, they would be the most stable undergraduate choice for 2013's graduating class, because they already had their strike while the others were still in line. At least that is what I recollect

Nope, you can definitely still drop a class on solar...just select "cancel" from the drop-down menu
edit: actually, I just checked it myself, and it says unavailable...weird, considering that I dropped a course on friday :S

CUPE 3906 Unit 1 and CUPE 3902 Unit 3 are run by different people though right?

Yea I remember hearing how other universities' contracts would be up near 2010. Here's an article I found about it. http://www.theontarion.ca/viewarticle.php?id_pa g=2103
We might just be the first of many. O.o

Yes, the CUPE locals are run by members. Everyone seems to be demonizing CUPE 3906 despite the fact that the people making the decisions are T.As just like the rest of the membership. CUPE national actually allows the locals to be very autonomous and based on member driven action.

Usually members of a union vote and have input on what they wanna bargain for, so I wouldn't just blame the union. Im pretty sure grad TAs had a large influence on the Mac strike. Instructors at UofT probably want better benefits, job security, and wages, it really comes down to what memebers want. If memebers said we don't want anything, Im sure there would be no strike.

It would help if the members were allowed to vote on the last offer the University tabled before the strike deadline. That would what they want.

FYI - There are 7 CUPE contracts coming up this term at Universities across Ontario. McMaster was the first.

Who wants to bet 5+ strikes?
CUPE is in my opinion, one of the more annoying unions. If you don't understand why I say this then look up Sid Ryan.
