SOC SCI ISS3 and SOC SCI 1EL0
Hi everyone!

Just wondering if anyone who has taken SOC SCI ISS3 and or SOC SCI 1EL0 can explain the difference between these two courses. If someone could also tell me if they found these courses helpful or not and if they were worth taking I'd really appreciate it!

Thank you!

1EL0 is to help you with the transition to university, planning your education/career goals and learning about the services available to you at McMaster. It does not count for any credits on your transcript and doesn't cost you anything.
1SS3 is designed to build skills you'll need for research papers, presentations, etc. It is a half year course (3 credits) and costs the same as any other course.
McMaster also offers similar not-as-scheduled opportunities to learn these things through the Student Success Centre.

I took both these courses,
In my opinion they were both really helpful.
1EL0 Is tuition free course so you either pass or fail, there is no mark. There are about 7 assignments that are SO EASY! It's basically small assignments to get you familiar with the school and hamilton.
It's a great course to help you feel more comfortable around the school and more organized as well. Also it's free so why not! It is a six week course so it does not last the whole semester.
As for 1SS3, if you are a social science student this is great because they touch base on research essays and how to collect information which will be highly helpful for any courses such as sociology/religious studies etc. This one is a 3 credit course so there will be a final mark. Overall decently easy course.

Most importantly, 1EL0 is the prerequisite for 2EL0 which allows you to be eligible for internships.

The only requisite for 2EL0 is registration in level 2 or above in a Social Sciences program.
