Social Sciences BA - Second Year
Upon choosing various programs I was interested to major in, I was ultimately admitted into the general social sciences BA. However, I am unsure as to what this entails, and what courses I should be taking for second year. Would it just be general social science courses since there is no specific major/minor I was admitted to? Clarification would be greatly appreciated!!!

You're right. Since you are not majoring in anything specific, you just take any courses from the faculty of social science you like. (ex. Econ, PoliSci, Anthro, etc). You should consider shadowing a specific program. A general B.A in social sciences isn't going to be very useful.

Thanks! Would it be possible to minor in a certain area (e.g. Health & Aging) with this BA?

Also would I go about taking only second year social science courses or can I also take 1st year courses? It's a little confusing as the requirements on Mac's site aren't too clear on this issue.

Hey! I would say that you can take any courses as long as you meet the pre-requisites. So yeah you can take first year courses as well as second year courses and sometimes there are certain third year courses as well that do not require you to be in third year so possibly you can take those as well. But it will be to your advantage if you take courses in a way so that you can switch to a specific program in social sciences (health aging, psychology, sociology etc) in your third year.

Sounds good, thanks so much for your help!

Just one last question, I attempted to choose various second year courses on SOLAR last night such as health aging however it did not allow me as I am not in the health and aging program. Is there any way to get around this?
