SOCS WW Rep
Do you have what it takes to be a SOCS Welcome Week Rep?<O></O>
<O></O>
MARIA TOPALOVIC, MACINSIDERS

To be a SOCS Welcome Week Rep (WWR), you have to have dedication, commitment and most of all spirit!! The SOCS WW Coordinators plan the off campus programming for WW and they co-plan many University wide events with the Residence Wide WW Planners. Without SOCS Reps, WW events would not be able to run for the first year off campus students. <O>

So do you think you have what it takes to be a SOCS WWR? If so, read on for information about what you need to do. E-mail [email protected] to ensure that you are on our mailing list. The emails that we send out contain all the info you need on Rep Information. This information is also posted on our website: www.mcmaster.ca/socs.

There is a
3-part process for eligible applicants (any full-time Undergraduate student at McMaster), which includes:</O>
  1. Completing an application form, which includes fun and serious questions about your experience and encourages the applicant to be creative in their submission
    _
  2. Preparing an audition, which can be in the form of a skit, video, cheer or any other creative idea you can come up with! This can be done on your own or in groups of up to 6 people.
    _
  3. Completing an interview (which is done individually) and includes questions relating to your experience and behaviour based questions dealing with WW <O></O>
<O></O>Being a SOCS Rep is a great opportunity! The position also runs for a whole year and not just during WW. Reps are expected to come out to events during the year and stay involved so that they help first years stay connected within the McMaster Community. Within WW, there are also opportunities to get more involved in certain areas as SOCS has various WW planning sub committees which help put on exciting events with input from the whole SOCS Team of reps, coordinators and executive members.

If you loved your own WW, if you want to be more involved at MAC,
if you want to help first years feel welcomed when they come here in September, if you love fun volunteer experiences, and if you have McMaster pride and spirit, then this is the position for you!

I have been involved in WW as a SOCS Rep and a SOCS WW Coordinator for many years and if I could go back and do it all over again, I would! WW is an amazing time and a great way to meet a lot of wonderful people and give back to those who helped you feel welcomed when you first came to MAC. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at [email protected]. You can also contact this year’s SOCS Welcome Week Coordinators, Becky Seymour and Amanda Mills at the WWC email: [email protected]<O>
</O>

As a SOCS Rep, you will attend meetings throughout the summer geared not only to training but also to team building. These meetings help all the reps get to know each other better as not everyone knows each other right away! Since being a SOCS Rep is a full year commitment, you are also able to stay more involved with SOCS throughout the year and stay connected to the first years that you meet! <O></O>

Where can you get more information? Well, the application form is available here: http://www.mcmaster.ca/socs/forms.html. It is due Monday, February 11th 2008 at 4:00pm. LATE ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!! When you submit your application form to the SOCS office (MUSC B109) you can sign up for an interview. The interviews will be taking place on February 14th and February 15th.<O>
</O>
<O></O>
As for the audition…up to six people can audition together, but you can also do it solo. If you choose to make a video, please keep it under five minutes. Be creative as possible. We get bored easy. If you’re a returning rep,
you don’t need to do an audition, but if you wish you still can. <O></O>
<O></O>
If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to drop by our office or send us an email<O></O>

Also, SOCS has won the Welcome Week Cup for the past two years. That's another form of incentive, right?
