Start of 2nd Semester...Why so early???
Hey guys, does anyone know why McMaster University begins second semester on January 4th while ALMOST EVERY OTHER UNIVERSITY starts on the Jan 11th?

Please tell me we atleast end a week earlier than all these other schools (Western, Laurier, Queens, Guelph too). My break was barely 2 weeks since i wrote exams till the very last day.

Does this have anything to do with the strike at all or does McMaster simply like to **** students in the *** pruposley and make their academics seem alot more suprerior than they really are.

We should all be finished school no later than the 2nd week of April since we start like 2 days after new years....****in bull****

Hey, beats me. A lot of people think that we're getting our money's worth for having so little days off, and more class time, but honestly... no, that's ridiculous.

I don't think McMaster is "****ing students in the ***" pruposley [sic].

And apparently their academics aren't that superior, considering there are people going to McMaster who can't spell 'a lot', 'superior', and don't know when to use a question mark.

Besides that, our last day of school is in the second week of April, and we start 4 days after New Years, not 2.

Also, school should always start on the first Monday after New Years (unless New Years is a Monday I guess).

I dunno about you guys, but I'd rather take a month off at Christmas and go back two weeks earlier in the summer, rather than what we have now.

Anyway, most of the legit universities are going back on the 4th as well (i.e. Waterloo, UofT. etc). Only the crappier semi-college universities are off until the 11th.

Wow dont take everything so personal im just stating the fact its stupid that a lot of my friends dont start school till a week after we do, yet we finish at the same time/sometimes after them. Im just trying to make a point and you ran a spell check over my post.

Either way, my point is that i read somewhere earlier, ill try to find it if i can, that McMaster ends on April 28th (last exam)...which was the same day as last year.

No, this is not a life altering matter and im not going to jump out if a window because we have an extra week of school, im just saying whats the reason some schools start a full week later.

Don't know about you but spending the Christmas holidays with freinds and family isnt that bad an extra week of it wouldn't be a bad thing.

I probably made more spelling errors so if you want to run through that 1 more time and edit it would be appreciated.

I am actually looking forward to getting back @ mac! And think of it this way..once you are done with 2nd semester you get 4 months of break! And I am waiting for that one since two weeks (or less) is no good.
One more week until school starts..aah start already :p

My opinion on this is exactly the same as for the "why does first term end so late" thread.

Well I don't like going back early either, but I mean whatever. Sure, I'm dreading it right now, but I know within 2 or 3 days of coming back we'll be getting used to it. So just chill until then - what else are you gonna do?

Well, another way to look at it, since you are in Business is that a shorter break prevents you from falling out of the practice of keeping up with your readings and your work. Since 2nd year is very intensive, it prepares you by constantly keeping you on your feet.

I was at a friends place to visit last week, and we were talking about school. He mentioned to me that one year at UofT, he had an evening exam on Christmas Eve, and because of it, he couldn't go visit his sister and her kids like he normally does that day.

I'm just glad we don't have that kind of crap here. At least so far...

The new term used to start just two days after New Year's. Good thing it's not like that right now.
