My current plans are to switch over to commerce II by fall 2012. What courses should i take first year? what grades should i maintain? Stuff like that, if anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated !!!

I'd say just focus in on getting into Commerce II before you have your eyes set on a CA.

http://www.degroote.mcmaster .ca/ug...pt2011_003.pdf

It says you should have an average of about 7, however, since it's pretty competitive to switch in, try to aim as high as you can.

It also lists what courses you need to take to enroll into COMMII

Desda says thanks to Cliu91 for this post.

If I remember correctly, Commerce I students had to take this as well, but if you did calc in highschool you are exempt from those courses.

You should talk to your academic counsellor.

EDIT: if you hav grade 12 calc you dont need to worry about needing math 1f03 / 1k03 for a transfer. just go ahead and take math 1m03

HI
I just switched from social sciences 1 to commerce 2 and heading to become a ca
firstly as it was said above focus on getting into commerce 2
my grades werent exactly upto par but they were good enough
WORD OF ADVICE: go to all your lectures and tutorials
i regret soo much till this day for giving up 3 weeks after school started and not going to lectures and sleeping in
i could have done much better and i wouldnt have to cram up during exam/midterm time

oh and if u take math 1m03..go with yazinshi or mclean...really good profs and i ended up getting a 10 in that course

Focus on getting into commerce first and keeping at least a 7.0 GPA with all the necessary courses: http://www.degroote.mcmaster .ca/ug...pt2011_003.pdf
After doing so, these links would help you with what comes after:

This is a little reference guide I made for a few friends of mine who want to be CAs.

It's basically all the courses that you need to take at McMaster to complete the ICAO's 51 Credit Hours.

Here's the original PDF, it's just as crudely made but nicer quality : Road to Becoming a CA.pdf

Bump!

My old imgur link seems to be broken so:

It's not that useful, just a more visual way of seeing all the courses you need to complete.

This just made it easier for my friends to know which courses it was referring to in one document and for them to figure out how to arrange the courses.

My suggestion to you if you want to become a chartered accountant would be to transfer to either Schulich, Ivey or Queen's commerce (Queen's comm is especially good for preparing you for the CA exam). I'm not saying mcmaster doesn't offer a good business program, but this would be my best suggestion, b/c if you don't become an accountant (don't pass CA exams or change of career plans but still within the business field) then those schools undoubtedly have a better reputation which will lead to much better networking and job prospects, and look at the salary 3 years after graduation from those schools and you'll see what I mean. In the business world, school reputation matters a lot and those are the most reputable business schools in Canada.
