summer; Bio 2B03 and Stats 2B03
I am planning to take Stats 2B03 and Bio 2B03 in the summer. Then take Bio 2F03 in the 2nd term.
I hear that it's better to take harder courses in the summer since the marks are not considered in your GPA. (im guessing that's why people are taking orgo chem??) Is that true?

Does anyone know/ can suggest whether taking the stats and bio in the summer is a good idea?
the reason i want to take the 3 courses is to get rid of some LAB courses during 2nd year; (honours Bio (core) or life sci) and i hear Stats is pretty hard.

-No-all your marks count in your GPA if you take them at Mac
-FYI: Bio 2b and Bio 2f are the easiest courses ever...you dont need to take them in the summer.

i agree with the above poster, both those courses are very easy!

stats is not hard either if you have dr. childs (given that you attend all the classes) - also stats doesnt really have "labs", they're called labs but really they're just VERY simple assignments that you do on your own and go to the lab if you need help

perhaps bio 2c03 - genetics would be a good one to take during the summer.

i dont think theres anything wrong with taking easy courses in the summer, they may be easy but it will still lighten your course load for next year.

i heard both genetics and stats is hard. is that true??
if they are hard then i don't want to take them at the same time but then again, in the summer is better than in 2nd year..

Does anyone know Dr. Sarr's teaching styles? (for Stats 2B03)

i havent heard anything about dr. sarr, but i can totally vouch for dr. childs - his teaching style is amazing and tests very easy, as are the assignments.

he gives you a course handbook, included in which, are sample tests and the midterms and final ends up being taken exactly from those samples

its not a tough course, so i'd recommend sticking to it in the year - this is especially so if you've never taken a stats course, you wouldnt want to get stuck with a bad professor.

also i think 2c03 is a good idea over the summer b/c its dr. dej teaching it (who's awesome!), and i don't think she'll be teaching it next year.

I second the 2C03 for dr Dej. it would be good to get her before she leaves.
though from my understanding the new prof for 2B03 actually did make it a very heavy course, so you may want to take that to avoid the horrible crunch I know a few ppl went through in second term with it.

taking any course over the summer is a good idea to lighten your load if you can though.

I don't think many people can say that Bio 2B03 is hard this semester. The only reason why people think it's so hard this semester is because the exam is worth 60%. The weight of the exam does NOT correlate with the difficulty of the course. Appart from the less than 30 pratice questions he gave us, you can't really tell how his questions are going to turn out to be like.

So really the course isn't hard as of yet, just "scary" because you don't really know what to expect.

Im not sure where i can check which prof. is teaching this summer for stats.
Someone said its taught by Dr. Sarr but..... does anyone know who will be teaching Stats B03 this summer and next year?

Also, when i try to sign up for Bio 2C03, it says that i don't have the prerequisite.
Can i still apply for that course?

im betting you can't sign up for 2c03 b/c it requires registration in an honors program

BIOLOGY 1A03, 1M03 (or 1AA3), CHEM 1AA3; or ISCI 1A24; and registration in an Honours program in the Faculty of Science, or a program in Arts & Science, Health Sciences or Kinesiology

-if you're in 1st year right now, then that's probably why. you should go talk to an academic advisor.

also you can find who's teaching on the master timetable. here's the link:

https://adweb.cis.mcmaster.ca /mtt/

(i dont actually see a professor for stats 2b03 on there)

O thank you

So, Dr. Dej is leaving after this summer... then in that case i better take bio C03 course in the summer !!!
Everyone says she's the best!!

And for Dr. Childs, does he always teach the stats 2b03?? (is it likely for him to teach it next year as well??)
