How is the TA strike related to HSR and GO Transit?
Why does the TA strike prevent HSR and GO buses from entering MAC? I don't understand the relationship.

I believe (at least with respect to the GO) that they do not want to compromise efficiency and punctuality by being delayed with picket lines, and are assigned another route to ensure timely service.
Ironically, they seem to be holding up the rest of traffic which is interesting (because it's one more sign that commuters are taking over the world )

Two reasons:
Delays caused by being held up by picket lines, which will seriously affect their schedules. Also, the HSR bus drivers are unionized, and therefore won't cross the picket lines of another union out of respect for the strike.

It hasn't actually be stated which officially reasoning either of the bus companies are going with but the aforementioned ones (delays and solidarity) are the more reasonable explanations.

On the GO website there is no mention of service changes...kind of stupid on their part...

Anyway, if you talk to a GO rep on the phone they will tell you for efficiency and safety reasons.

Hmm... wow, okay thanks.

I think will keep my comments about the strike in my head, out of courtesy.

Yea they do have a service change posted up for McMaster University, under their "Current Train & Bus Status" page.

McMaster Passengers:
Due to a labour disruption at McMaster University, GO Buses will not
serve the McMaster Bus Terminal. Please visit
Bus Detours page for details.

McMASTER UNIVERSITY: effective November 2nd until further notice

Due to a labour disruption on the McMaster campus, GO Buses are
unable to service the McMaster University Bus Terminal. As a result,
GO Buses will board at the HSR bus stop at Main St. W. and Emerson
St. and drop off at the HSR bus stop at Bowman St. and Main St.

Missed Stops: The McMaster University GO Bus Terminal will not be serviced

The HSR driver stopped the bus on Emerson Monday night and said that the buses would not be crossing because HSR drivers are also unionized, and he explained where the bus would go instead.

The 5 and 51 go from the corner of Sterling and King down King to Dalewood, then along Main to Emerson, and follow the normal route from there. It's the same in the other direction, except they go along Haddon from Main to King.

So far, the HSR is the worst part about this strike. However, the upside is that I burn some calories walking up and down campus. :]
