Talking to Profs
Hey there McMaster,

I'm a first year student and I've never talked to one of my profs before. I'm kind of a shy person, and I get intimidated really easily. I have a meeting with my social work prof today to discuss my grade and I'm really nervous! Has anyone ever spoken to their profs about their grades? What are some of the things I should be prepared to answer?

Thanks!

Can you provide a little more background? Why are you discussing your grade with your prof? What is your current grade? What do you hope to get out of the meeting?

I'm not sure what you're discussing with them so can't really help with the questions, but just remember that profs are people too and they were once in your position - they're not out to get you!

Just act normal. Honestly most professors are fine when you talk one on one with them. They might seem intimidating during lecture, but in person, they are usually cool.

Dont worry, more likely than not, if you have a valid case, you mark will change

Hey everyone

I posted another thread about my average being a 2.9. This is why I need to discuss my grade with her.

My car was just in an accident about an hour ago and I have no way to get to the school! D: I'm panicking now, but she gave me an option to email her instead, saying that it seemed too difficult for me to get to campus. I'm drafting an email to her now, but I'm afraid I will come across differently and lose my chances of getting my grade changed, what should I do??

When I talked to my prof about a grade in person then he was very fair and friendly, so just be polite and they should be able to help you the best they can

Maybe you can explain your situation in the email, and also mention that you would like to try again for another meeting if she needs more detail? it would show that you're really dedicated to getting this resolved. personally I think these matters are best settled in person, profs tend to be more sympathetic when they see a face and not just a name, especially if they recognize your face from every class.
