				Team Canada's Hockey Team

So, camp is starting soon and Yzerman has the tough job of picking Team Canada. I'm not into hockey enough to make my own Team Canada roster but I would like to know what would be YOUR Team Canada? Also, any other discussion about Team Canada's Hockey Team is welcome.

GO CANADA GO!

Here's the list of invites:

Goalies: Martin Brodeur, Roberto Luongo, Marc-Andre Fleury, Steve Mason, Cam Ward

Defencemen: Jay Bouwmeester, Dan Boyle, Scott Niedermayer, Chris Pronger, Robyn Regehr, Dion Phaneuf, Marc Staal, Shea Weber, Francois Beauchemin, Brent Burns, Drew Doughty, Stephane Robidas, Mike Green, Dan Hamhuis, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook

Forwards: Sidney Crosby, Shane Doan, Simon Gagne, Dany Heatley, Jaroe Iginla, Rick Nash, Joe Sakic, Martin St-Louis, Eric Staal, Joe Thorton, Vincent LeCavalier, Ryan Smyth, Jeff CArter, Ryan Getzlaf, Milan Lucic, Patrick Marleau, Andy McDonald, Brenden Morrow, Corey Perry, Michael Richards, Derek Roy, Patrick Sharp, Jordan Staal, Jonathan Toews, Dan Cleary.

Assuming its the standard 4 lines, 3 defense, 2 goalies, id go with the following:

Line 1: Nash, Crosby, Iginla
Line 2: Parise, Lecavalier, Doan
Line 3: Staal, Tavares, Getzlaf
Line 4: Toews, Draper, Spezza

Alternates: Heatley (heard he may not be invited, if he is, move him to line 2 in place of Doan), Briere, Thornton, J. Carter

Defense 1: Pronger, Niedermayer
Defense 2: Greene, Phaneuf
Defense 3: Bouwmeester, Boyle

Alts: I. White, Seabrook, Regehr

Goalies: Brodeur, Luongo

Alt: Ward

I'm totally in love with that new jersey. Best jersey since Summit series, IMO.

Balls! Is there a list of the invites? i just did this off the top of my head, cuz I haven't seen one. Draper would be awesome though. One of the best faceoff men in the world, and even at his age, one of the fastest guys around.

EDIT: And having played with Yzerman and under Babcock doesn't hurt his chances

I don't know if there is one, but I was watching The Score and they said he won't be on the team. There were also two other people but I can't remember their names.

Here's the list:
 http://www.ctvolympics.ca/hockey/news/newsid=12421.html
I also added the list into the original post.

		Yep, Parise is American.
Canada's double-edged sword when making this team is their depth in center. Look at all of the natural centers invited to the camp: Crosby, Thornton, Carter, Richards, Lecavalier, Toews, J. Staal, Getzlaf, Roy, E. Staal, McDonald and Spezza. That's 12 players fighting for at most 5 roster spots. Baring a horrible camp or injury, Crosby is pretty much a lock for the number 1 center position, and the Nash-Getzlaf-Heatley line was too dominate at the Worlds to break up, meaning Getzlaf probably gets the number 2 center position. Seeing how they're assembling an olympic team and not an all-star team, there's going to be a checking line (the 4th line), and the only center grinder left on that list that I see is Richards. So in essence, I think Lecavalier, Thornton, Toews, Carter and the rest will be fighting for that last 3rd line center position. Obviously only one of them can make it, so we'll either be seeing a lot of really good players cut or centers playing out of their position on the wing. When you're facing teams like the Czech Republic and Sweden that use a neutral-zone trap, I don't think having natural centers on the wing will help stimulate the offense much....

My ideal team Canada roster would be:
xxx - Crosby - xxx
Nash - Getzlaf - Heatley
xxx - xxx - xxx
xxx - Richards - xxx

Pronger - Niedermayer
Weber - xxx
Phaneuf - xxx

Luongo
xxx

Where "xxx" is any player. As long as the core of players I've listed make the team, the rest don't really matter that much to me.

hiya Joseph, long time no see
I'm surprised you have Price there especially when you're a hardcore Leafs fan explain?
Also, why don't you have Pronger as one of your defencemen?

I like your Picks Joseph. The only one I'd question is Thornton, and only because the last few years, he hasn't stepped up when he needed to, and his previous Olympic turnout was rather dismal. Morrow would make up for that though.
Dammit, I overlooked Morrow. Replace my Parise with Morrow, since I'm an idiot and didn't realize he's a foreigner

I obviously want Canada to take home the gold but don't be surprised if the U.S challenges. they're pretty young but they have an explosive roster and will be very good by 2014. As for the jerseys I would love to see them play in the summit series ones.\

You would take Carey Price? After last season/playoffs I would take Fleury, Ward or Mason as my 3rd or maybe even 2nd string depending on how they do during the season.
