Textbooks
How often do we need our textbooks in class?
I want to avoid buying a locker and if we don't need it in class as we did in high school then I won't do so.
Thanks very much

Almost never.

Well I guess it depends on how you makes notes and such. I had friends who would make notes in their textbooks, but I only ever brought my notes and a clipboard.

I don't know about your electives and there's possibly some exceptions, but from my experience so far: Never.

You're basically supposed to read through the textbook on your own time outside of lecture. Most profs would use powerpoints or otherwise during lectures.

Agreed. Bringing your textbooks to the lecture is usually useless but they may be necessary for some classes such as English 1a03 and 1aa3 where the professors often refer to passages in the texts.

If you're commuting, you might want a locker to keep your textbooks in for your time in between classes and to keep things like winter boots and jackets. If you're living in residence there is no need for a locker.

Lets say you do not buy any textbooks at all. If the situation requires you to use a text book, could you rent them from the library or are you screwed?

Thanks in advance.

All course materials should be kept on reserve in the library. That being said there are usually only a few copies of each so they may be difficult to get a hold of. It depends on the course.

Also you can only keep them for a short period of time, 2 hours usually I think. This makes it no so ideal for studying and doing lots of readings.

Textbooks can be expensive but required texts are assigned for a reason. Try to buy used from other students and Titles and you can save a lot of money and still keep up to date with your course readings.
