thieves stealing...
garbage bins and recycling bins.

we put out the garbage + recycling at our house this morning and when we came back early afternoon all the bins were gone! we had no problems with it all summer and it wasn't even windy to blow away anything. *sigh*

has this happened to anyone else? & anyone know where we can get new ones and how much they cost?

so yea.. watch out for your bins.

It was pretty windy today maybe it blew down the street.

Anyways you can get new blue bins for free at the following locations: http://www.hamilton.ca/CityDepartmen...edABlueBox.htm

Maybe it was those dam raccoons...first they eat your garbage, then they take the bins away forcing you to leave your garbage on the ground which inturn allows them to feast on it easily.

But on this note, someone stole our dam lid for our garbage bin too few weeks back. Must be those dam raccoons....

My one blue box with my cardboard and papers blew away (??) but I can imagine that there are people who need a blue box and would much rather steal one then buy one at Canadian Tire.

I also wrote my address on my two boxes with permanent marker.

Only thing worse if having your stuff destroyed (which means no hope in finding it). Last year I bought a new recycling bin from Fortinos, and when I came back after leaving it out with recycling, I found only a tiny fragment left.

My guess is that the recycling truck ran it over, realized what they did, and then just recycled it. :(

Why do people steal blue boxes when you can get them for free? lol I guess it's the whole convenience factor...?

Pretty much. I don't think it's exactly easy to get one for free.

Meh, my green bin went missing this past Monday. Two years without a problem and suddenly it's gone, no way that thing just blew away.

As for getting blue bins... not hard, find the office that represents your area, walk in, give your address, leave with two sparkling shiny blue boxes. WRITE ADDRESS ON THEM.

One of ours got stolen in the summer... I imagine it's going to be worse during the school year. It wouldn't be so bad now, but when you work 8-4 everyday, it was somewhat impossible to make it down to a government building. Rage.

But yes, THEY ARE FREE. Why are people buying them? >_<

Omg this is what happened to me and my housemates?!?!
All our garbage bins and blue boxes "disappeared" over the summer..one fine day. And we have nothing with us at present.
Stealing blue boxes is too lame..I hope someone's not sad enough to do this..but meh..what can we say afterall!

I think people just find it amusing.
I don't know why you would be amused by amassing large blue bins. Life sized Lego perhaps?

Can't afford to pay rent and are building a recycling bin mansion.
