There's a residence check list here: http://www.macinsiders.com/showthrea...2.html?t=17222
There will also be an updated version of it posted on the homepage of the site soon, so be sure to watch out for that

Next year is the first year I'll be living on res so this is my checklist. I know I'm in a single room because I'm a CA so that's why I'm getting a bit more.
Whiteboard
Linens from Ikea
Printer
Towels
Toothbrushes
Toothpaste
Deodorant
Bounty towels
Paper
Personal care products, whatever those may be for you. For me they include facial cleansers and soap etc
Body wash is probably more practical than soap
Shampoo and conditioner as well as the hair care products I need
A lamp
A Brita filter
A fridge
and I may be getting a humidifier or air filter because I have trouble with allergies and asthma. But since McKay is an older res, they don't usually advise humidifers in older buildings because they increase the amount of bacteria in the room.
Other than that, just my clothes, my shoes etc and my allergy sheets
I'll probably be getting a ton of posters as well

Good point Bushra! I would wait to see if you get into rez and see what type of room to get. If you're living off-campus, I recommend you wait to see your room/house before you buy a furniture, fridge, etc.

You don't need a lamp, all res rooms have a desk with a built in reading lamp
In McKay you'll want a fan, trust me
You might also want to consider bringing a desk chair since the ones in res rooms suck
Apart from that you've covered basically everything

I've seen the lights in McKay on a rainy day and the reading lamps. I want one just so that the room is brighter, not so much for working with

That's cool, but get a fan, I remember making fun of the CAs in McKay last year because their building got so hot

A fan is absolutely necessary.
I lived in bates last year, and one of my roommates brought a fan. And we basically fought for it for the first 3 months

fans are a must...especially during frosh week.
you might want to consider bringing an external hard drive, to back up your computer AND to download all the awesome on DC++. My hard drive pretty much saved me last year when my laptop died.

School wide P2P, it's like limewire, but since everyone is on the same network and at mac viruses aren't a problem and the speeds are insane (You can download entire seasons worth of shows in less than half an hour).
